Snoozin'

I'll admit, there are times that I complain about the fact that Kyle will still occasionally crawl in bed with us. And there are times that I've second-guessed our decision not to get a king-sized bed. But, when I woke up this morning and saw this, my heart completely melted.

I love being a mom of two. I love it.

Still here...

I realize that I've been MIA for awhile, so I figured that I'd better make it clear that yes, indeed, I am still pregnant. No baby. She's still snug and comfy inside my little incubator.

Not by my choice, but by hers.

In fact, I feel no closer to delivery that I did a month ago. Perhaps she'll be as stubborn as her brother and stay in there for 41 weeks. The doctor keeps telling me that she doesn't suspect that'll be the case. Yet, I keep astounding her by my inability to go into labor.

In fact, I even tried to pull the "I'm afraid of having a large baby" strings. The fact that Kyle was 8 pounds was enough to get me another ultrasound, but that's about it. According to their measurements, she'll probably be about the same, which apparently isn't cause enough for induction. They're pretty strict in good ole' Cal-i-for-ni-A. Oh well, such is life.

On a good note, it did get me another picture of my little gal. And yes, I did make them double-check it was still a girl. Check it out:

A tad bit weird-looking, I'll admit. Especially with the squished nose. But it still made my heart melt. She reminds me of her big brother. The same mouth and same squishy cheeks. I love it.

Family Beach Fun

Last weekend we headed down to the beach for a little Turner family reunion. We rented a couple of beach houses with Kevin's parents, siblings, and all of the kidlets. And we had a blast!

First day on the beach. And very happy to be there.

This guy was pretty happy to be there, too. Although his visions of swimming
in the ocean decreased dramatically when he realized how cold it was.

Instead, he tried skim-boarding. Ever heard of it? You take this board and try
to "surf" along the surface of the water. It's tougher than it looks.

We built sand castles...

And had water fights.

AnaLyn liked to surprise Uncle Kevin. She was pretty proud of herself.

The cousins had a blast together...

and entertained themselves for hours.

Like Kyle said, "Friends are just our friends. But cousins are our family."

Pre-Beach Fun

On our way down to the beach, we stopped at a local farm to pick our own produce. They
had a petting zoo, a 600 lb. pig, and lots of fun trucks and trains to play on.

"Choo, choo!"

Kyle and AnaLyn pulling our wagon full of produce.

Taking turns pulling. Teamwork.

Uncle Rob instructing the kids on what a ripe blackberry looks like.

Kevin and Kyle picking the perfect ones.

Post-Beach Fun

On our way home, we decided to stop by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, mostly because we were in the area. Oh, and Air Force One was temporarily on display.

This is the only picture you'll get because they didn't allow photos inside the plane. We did get a tour, though. Two, in fact, because Kyle wanted to see it twice. It was pretty neat, but not quite as posh as I'd imagined. The current models are three times as big, and I'm guessing much more plush.

Umm, what?

I still have three weeks left before this little Turner is due. So imagine my surprise yesterday when the doctor informed me that I'm dilated to a 3. And 50% effaced.

"Ummm, what?"

That was my reply.

This is whole new territory for me. I was at a zero on my due date with Kyle. And he was a week late. I imagined it would be the same this time around.

PLUS, we're headed to the beach for a few days. I know, not the best timing. My doctor advised me to research the nearest hospital down there, and I've taken her advice.

So here's to a fun vacation! And here's to no more progress until at least next week!

Double Meaning

Kyle's learning to read and has been doing pretty well. But occasionally we encounter an obstacle. For instance, here's our lesson from a few weeks ago:

Ruth: "Okay, let's sound out these words."
Kyle: "Dog...cat...little...sleep...but - Hey Mom! Butt's a bad word!"

And so we interrupted our lesson for a 5-minute discussion on but vs. butt. Try explaining that to someone who doesn't really know how to spell. But I thought he'd figured it out.

Until today. Fast forward to this morning:

Kyle: "Hey mommy, you silly head! You're a silly goose. You're a butthead!"
Ruth: "Kyle! That's not a nice word!"
Kyle: "But mom, I said 'but.' Like, I'm going to the store but I don't want to. See? It's the nice 'but'."
Ruth: "Well, when you put it with the word 'head,' it's not a nice word. Okay?"

Apparently we still have some work to do.
