Treasures

Behold Kyle's treasures:

(From left to right: rocket from Chuck E Cheese, sparkly white rocks from the swimming pool, a top out of a gumball machine, frisbee from Chuck E Cheese, a BONE from the playground (yikes!) a giant Hulk pen, autographed baseball, Pokemon Happy Meal toy, baseball action figure, and a balloon from 4 months ago)

We've reached the stage where I can no longer throw away Burger King toys unnoticed. Kyle collects "treasures" everywhere he goes. He pilfers beautiful rocks from the swimming pool grounds, collects "interesting" objects at the playground, and keeps each and every Happy Meal or gumball machine toys he receives. And each one is lined up carefully on his dresser where he can admire them.

Second only to the dresser, is a special shelf on his bookcase. Here, all of his trophies and baseball cards are kept, with each one placed in a very specific spot. An Olympic birthday party is in the works, and he's already decided where his trophy and gold-medal party favors are going to placed.

He recently explained to me why these two spots were the "special spot." Because, he explained, they're high enough that babies can't reach them, but big kids can.

Smart thinking, young man. Because you're going to have a little sister invading your room in no time at all!

Singing in the Rain

When you live in the desert, rain gets pretty exciting.

Okay, it gets really exciting.

And yes, as soon as I finished taking pictures, I went out and played, too.

Chaos

Please tell me that I'll gain back control of my life someday soon. Because as it stands now, it is definitely out of control.

I mean, for heaven's sake - my children are almost 5 years apart. It shouldn't be that difficult, right? It doesn't seem to be for all of you moms of many kidlets. Well, it obviously is for me.

Clean house? Nope.

Clean laundry? Nope.

Exercise? Not as much as I'd like.

Happy children? Not so much. At least not at the same time.

I have a friend who specializes in having children, year after year, and she says that you've just got to hold on tight for 2 months, and then you get your life back.

So, the way I see it, by the time August 20th rolls around, I should be sane again.

What do we do when Grandma's in town?

We go swimming. A lot.

We take naps. Just because we can.

We eat lots of rainbow snowcones that turn our mouths black.

We make yummy cookies.

And we have a whole lot of fun. She left today and we're oh, so sad.
We don't know what we'll do without her.

Need I say more?

Two Weeks

9 lbs. 2 oz.
Still sleeps. And sleeps. And sleeps.
Except at 4 a.m.
Loves when daddy talks to her.
HATES a stinky diaper.
Is just as cute as ever.

Passing the time

I've never been one to watch a whole lot of TV. Very few shows interest me, and even when one catches my eye, I can rarely remember the day or time that it's on.

However, there was a time when I watched more than my fair share. It was right after I had Kyle, and it seemed like I spent the majority of my time feeding. Or resting. Or perhaps it was because I was finally a stay-at-home-mom. Whatever the reason, I watched a lot of TV. "The View," "Oprah," "Dr. Phil"... You name it, I watched it.

Luckily, when it came time to wean Kyle, I also weaned myself. From television, that is. It wasn't hard. And I didn't miss it.

But it seems I'm right back where I started. Feeding at all times of the day and night. Looking for something to pass the time. But this time I haven't turned to Oprah or Dr. Phil. This time I've turned to my Girls.

The Gilmore Girls.

I was never a devoted fan while the season was in its prime. Oh, I liked it. I could just never remember when it was on. So I failed to tune in. But, let me tell you, I'm addicted now. And lucky for me, each season comes in a nifty little box set so I can satisfy my addiction hour after hour.

I have to say that the quirky characters of Stars Hollow have been the perfect late-night companions. I've finished Season 1 in the last two weeks and I'm more addicted than ever. Good thing I have six more to go.
